Alpine Down Parka

Eight hundred fill power is the benchmark separating performance down insulation from commodity fill. At 800-fill, each ounce of down creates more loft — more trapped warm air — than lower-fill alternatives, delivering more warmth at less weight. The Alpine Down Parka uses 160 grams of 800-fill RDS-certified down in a box-baffle construction, meaning each baffle is a three-dimensional box rather than a flat sewn-through channel. The difference is meaningful: sewn-through quilting creates cold spots at every stitch line; box baffles eliminate them entirely.

The 2.5-layer shell is a waterproof-breathable construction rated to 15,000mm hydrostatic head pressure (handles sustained heavy rain) and 15,000 g/m²/24h moisture vapor transmission (breathes aggressively during high output). In practice, this combination means the parka handles alpine storm conditions while preventing the internal condensation that makes down lose its loft when damp. A DWR finish on the face fabric beads water on first contact; it’s re-applicable when it eventually wears.

The hood is generously cut to accommodate a helmet, with a one-handed drawcord that can be cinched around the face without removing gloves. At 680 grams and capable of compressing into its own chest pocket at the size of a football, this is an expedition-grade parka that fits in a daypack.
